Mission

What To Pack For The Future helps people understand how artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies are changing the world—and consider how we can shape those changes for the common good. We bring technical knowledge into conversation with creative and human-centered perspectives, making complex developments more accessible through research, experimentation, thoughtful analysis, and practical learning resources.

We approach this work as a form of public education. We examine news, research, and technology releases carefully; seek credible sources; distinguish evidence from interpretation; and explain what is known, what remains uncertain, and why it matters. We aim to share findings clearly and responsibly, acknowledge limitations, and correct our work when we discover errors. Our goal is not to tell people what to think, but to give them useful context and tools to think critically for themselves.

The name What to Pack expresses our belief that the future is shaped not only by technology, but by the skills, values, habits, and judgment people bring to it. The challenges ahead can feel overwhelming. We create this project to help make them easier to understand—and to encourage people to meet them with curiosity, care, and a commitment to human well-being.

Ethics

What To Pack For The Future is here to help people make sense of a rapidly changing world. We create our work with people in mind: making complex ideas easier to understand, respecting the real effects technology can have on people’s lives, and encouraging thoughtful exploration. People are responsible for the research, editorial choices, and final work we publish.

Objective and independent

We approach topics with curiosity, care, and intellectual honesty. We aim to separate evidence from interpretation, represent uncertainty fairly, and correct mistakes when we find them. We have no allegiance to any company, technology, or ideological group. We recognize that perfect objectivity is difficult, so we work to be transparent about our reasoning and open to revising our views.

Not for profit

This life-long research project is guided by its purpose: to inform and support people, not to maximize profit. Our editorial decisions are not made to promote a company, product, or ideology. If a time comes where we accept funding, sponsorships, or other support that could affect how our work is perceived, we will be transparent about it and protect our editorial independence from distorting our perspective. Our audience trusting our work is our top priority.
